An Intensity Measure for the Rocking Fragility Analysis of Rigid Blocks Subjected to Floor Motions

چکیده
A novel intensity measure (IM), dimensionless floor displacement, is presented for evaluating the seismic fragility of freestanding rigid blocks subjected to one-sine acceleration pulses in this paper. The rocking responses are simulated using an equivalent single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) model with a bespoke discrete damper account energy dissipation. performance various IMs compared simulation results four different block models under excitation conditions. In comparison some well-known IMs, proposed IM, determined by magnitude and frequency as well geometry parameters, displays considerably stronger correlation peak rotation block. comparative show that effective should consider not only characteristics but also geometric parameters. Finally, curve generated IM performs best significantly reducing dispersion.

Nonlinear rocking of rigid blocks on flexible foundation: analysis and experiments
Primarily, two models are commonly used to describe rocking of rigid bodies; the Housner model, and the Winkler foundation model. The first deals with the motion of a rigid block rocking about its base corners on a rigid foundation. The second deals with the motion of a rigid block rocking and bouncing on a flexible foundation of distributed linear springs and dashpots (Winkler foundation). The...
متن کاملAn Analytical Technique for Solving Nonlinear Oscillators of the Motion of a Rigid Rod Rocking Bock and Tapered Beams
In this paper, a new analytical approach has been presented for solving strongly nonlinear oscillator problems. Iteration perturbation method leads us to high accurate solution. Two different high nonlinear examples are also presented to show the application and accuracy of the presented method. The results are compared with analytical methods and with the numerical solution using Runge-Kutta m...
متن کاملSelection of Optimal Intensity Measure for Seismic Assessment of Steel Buckling Restrained Braced Frames under Near-Fault Ground Motions
Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) have a similar behavior under compression and tension loadings. Therefore, they can be applied as a favorable lateral load resisting system for structures. In the performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) framework, an intermediate variable called intensity measure (IM) links the seismic hazard analysis with the structural response analyses. An optimal IM...
متن کاملFree Rocking of Prismatic Blocks
This paper investigates both experimentally and theoretically the free rocking of a prismatic block supported by a stationary , horizontal foundation: the block is tilted, almost to the point of overturning, and released from this position. It is shown that the standard mathematical model for this problem is often inaccurate. A critical review of the implicit assumptions behind the standard mod...
متن کاملDynamic Harmonic Balance Principle and Analysis of Rocking Block Motions
The harmonic balance (HB) principle is a powerful and convenient tool for finding periodic solutions in nonlinear systems. In the present paper, this principle is extended to transient processes in systems with one single-valued odd-symmetric nonlinearity and linear plant not having zeros in the transfer function, and named the dynamic HB. Based on the dynamic HB, first the equations for the am...
